Think acoustic ceilings are boring and all look the same? Well think again. There are a lot of ways to customize your drop ceiling tiles to reflect your style and preferences. So once your installer has gone through how to hang a suspended ceiling with you, you’ll need to discuss the following customization options with them:
Tile sizes
Acoustic ceiling tiles come in different sizes. Smaller units measure 2×2 and larger units measure twice in size at 2×4. Discuss with your ceiling contractor which option will be better for you. Larger spaces fair better with larger tiles and vice versa.
Tile shape
The shape of acoustic panels also differs as well. While the standard shapes are square (2×2) and rectangular (2×4), you also have other unique units that feature shapes such as triangular, linear, and even 3D. Apart from adding aesthetics, some of the 3D shapes also offer better sound proofing.
Tile material
Before you decide where to buy suspended ceiling tiles, decide which tile material you prefer. Different tile materials offer different functionality values when it comes to sound proofing, heat resistance, light reflection, energy insulation, and so on. Some of the common materials in the market include mineral fiber, fiberglass, polystyrene, and faux wood.
Tile color, texture, and finish
Granted, most acoustic ceiling tiles are white in color. However, you can purchase ceiling tiles in other colors; or paint over them to attain the color you desire. Dark ceiling tiles, for example, are becoming a trend in some retail and residential properties. Color aside, some tiles also vary in texture with some being smooth and others rough. Others also feature matte and glossy finishes.
Tile patterns & decorative visual effects
Unlike in the past, modern ceiling tiles are today available in numerous decorative options. There are tiles that feature patterns that almost resemble wallpaper or some types of tiling. These can turn your ceiling into an art canvas. Other decorative visual effects include contours, lines, and debossed grooves.
Type of lighting
Not sure how to hang lights in suspended ceiling? You can change the way your T-bar ceiling looks by what type of lighting you choose to install. Options include recessed lights, ceiling tile lights, fluorescent tubes. The latter offers a traditional look while recessed lights offer the most modern appeal. Costs, installation, and maintenance, however, differ for all three so bear that in mind.
Ceiling height
The height at which you decide to install your acoustic ceiling is another differentiating factor that can make your space stand out. Taller ceilings are more contemporary and can make smaller spacers feel larger than they really are. They can also help with cooling your spaces better. However, taller ceilings can also require you to install more/brighter lighting.
With all the above options you should be able to customize your suspended acoustic ceiling to fit your preferences just right. If not sure, discuss it with your Los Angeles ceiling installer and they will advise you on what works best for your particular spaces.
